The post that starts all posts...

I have a muse, or a genius - we all do - I am simply aware and open to it.  There is a great short video (I think it's a Ted) by Elizabeth Gilbert on creative genius; check it out - it is delightful.

I don't believe that everyone's genius is of the creative type - it is much more varied and complex than that. I believe that this genius, this muse, can and will taunt you until you pay attention. If you are an accountant yet dream of being a woodsman; your muse is working on you.

We, most of us, through modern socialization, values, priorities, and institutions, have become completely disconnected from the source of our genius, from the core of our being, from the desires of our hearts. Even those, such as my son, who are lucky enough to be raised outside of some of these destructive (I should explain why I say destructive? Maybe later) forces still must contend with the other forces - they cannot all be avoided and each one exerts a power over the Spirit as strong as gravity on the body.

Yet, the muse knows the way - surrendering is the biggest challenge, being willing to follow without knowing exactly where it will take you, being willing in many cases to give up your familiar neighborhood, or having to disappoint and perhaps abandon friends or family -- in order to fulfill what we could refer to as your destiny. Destiny sounds big, daunting, when it may be something quite simple in actuality, something others are probably already doing. Yet, for you, it will require you to feel like you are walking through fire, through a nightmare - in order to give up what you have diligently been working toward thus far - led by other people's idea of where your happiness should lie.

If you have a dream, or even just a faint recollection of desiring something particular (ex. to own a horse, to travel, to live abroad, to be an artist), I believe that it will never go away until you give in.
